The starry night (detail)

A dark cypress rises beside a sky filled with curling blue bands and bright stars. Below, the village forms a quieter group of roofs and a church tower, giving the open heavens a human scale. The contrast between upright tree, low settlement and sweeping sky organizes the scene even as the painted marks suggest continuous movement.

Van Gogh painted The starry night in oil in 1889; the canvas belongs to the Museum of Modern Art. This wider reproduction presents a detail of the original rather than an unchanged full-canvas format. In a bedroom, the art print introduces a strongly articulated night scene, with restrained furnishings and gentle lighting allowing the blue passages and small yellow highlights to remain distinct.
