Devotion

A girl in profile lifts her face toward a pale flower, her red hair standing against the subdued surrounding colors. Her blue clothing forms a broad, calm area below the head, while the upward direction of her gaze gives the vertical image its quiet movement. The encounter between face and flower remains intimate and concentrated.

Devotion, painted in oil in 1908, belongs to Mondrian’s figurative work before his mature geometric abstraction. The soft transitions around the face contrast with the stronger color of the hair, giving attention to both emotion and form. This art print suits a reading corner or bedroom, where blue furnishings and gentle light can echo its reflective atmosphere.
