Poppy field in a hollow near Giverny (detail)

Red flowers gather across a green hollow beneath a large leafy tree. Small figures and a pale parasol provide points of recognition within the field, while the rising ground and curving passage guide attention into the distance. Short strokes of red and green keep the surface lively without imposing hard outlines on the vegetation.

Monet painted this oil landscape near Giverny in 1885. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston records the full canvas as Poppy Field in a Hollow near Giverny. This wider art print presents a cropped detail, retaining the contrast between blossoms and foliage. Its summer palette can brighten a sitting room, where plain furnishings give the small figures and changing brushwork room to be seen.
